To mark Racial Justice Sunday on February 8th, Richard Shepley read a sermon written by Revd Dr Maithrie White-Dundas, an ordained minister in the Church of Ireland and member of the Ethnic Diversity, Inclusion and Racial Justice committee.
This sermon relates the well-known parable of the Good Samaritan to the question of how we treat migrants and refugees today. Against the backdrop of increasingly diabolical displays of racism, we must love as neighbours those who others may insist we treat as strangers, even when this might mean challenging our own communities and sacrificing our own comfort.
“The Good Samaritan risked his life to save the Jewish man – the least we can do is risk our comfort.”
