Hinde Street welcomes London Freshers 2025!

Whether you’re a fresher new to London, exploring your faith in the midst of your studies or a recent grad, Hinde Street is happy to welcome you for a visit or to join our friendly community. Below, you can read a little bit about our church, what we do, and what to expect from your first visit. You can also find resources to help take you through student life in London as a young Christian.

Worship:

We meet for regular Worship on Sundays at 11am, with additional services taking place some weeks in the mornings and evenings.

We hold Services throughout the year that are focused on national and international observation days and social justice themes (such as Pride or Black History Month). We also organise a Café Church Service a few times a year. Read more about the kinds of services we hold here.

Community:

Hinde Street fosters a sense of community by keeping to the Methodist tradition of small groups called ‘class meetings’. Our ‘classes’ vary in size, frequency and location of meetings, and sometimes age. Read more about classes and find the perfect one for you here.

Most months on one Sunday, the church gathers for Lunch following the 11am Worship. We also occasionally organise Church Days and Weekends Away – last year, a mixed group explored Greenwich and enjoyed tea and scones together.

As you get to know our church over time, you are also encouraged to join in on its inner workings – opportunities to participate range from reading at services to stewardship and leadership roles. Find out how to take part here.

Inclusive Church:

Hinde Street is an inclusive & affirming church, committed to working towards creating a safe place for everyone to explore and practice their faith. We put our inclusive faith in action by, for example, being a regular presence at Pride, promoting gender-neutral language, learning about neurodiversity, listening to one another, and celebrating and reflecting on the diversity of our congregation in the everyday as well as at dedicated services.

Flatshares for Young Christians:

Hinde Street has a long tradition of providing affordable accommodation for young Christians settling into London. Read more and check for any potential vacancies here.

Social Justice & Outreach:

For the last 50 years or so, Hinde Street has hosted and supported Wednesday & Thursday Club, an afternoon drop-in and meal service primarily aimed at those who are vulnerably housed or experiencing homelessness  – read more here. We also have a long tradition of hosting 12 Step Groups on our premises, and we have recently joined the Student Christian Movement as a link church.

Resources:

Starting university can be a challenging time as you navigate a new environment, take the next steps in your education, and get used to a higher degree of independence all at the same time. This is why we have put together some resources for new and existing students alike, with a focus on opportunities to find community and support among other young Christians.

Student Christian Movement is a student-led group focusing on fostering a radically inclusive Christian faith committed to the values of diversity, equality and community. SCM support social justice in the everyday and have partnered up with Project Bonhoeffer, The Climate Coalition, Greenbelt and others to pursue the Faith in Action project.
