Hinde Street Methodist Church welcomes London Freshers 2024!
As part of our 11am Worship on Sunday September 29th, we came together in prayer for students embarking on their journeys of learning and growth this autumn, and also reflected on how we all experience journeys such as these throughout life. We also took a moment to consider how we as a church can be more welcoming to students, and we wrote these ideas down on post-it notes to act as reminders to continue this welcome past Freshers’ Week.
As part of our welcome, we have put together small gift bags for students – these include a little treat with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available! If you come and attend our Sunday Worship within the next few weeks, you’ll be able to grab one as you exit the church. Do come in to worship and have a chat with one of our friendly door stewards – they’re happy to talk to you about our inclusive church, life in London, or even the weather!
We have also put together some guidance and resources for Christian students in London on our website. You can read all about Christian student networks in the city, locate a Methodist chaplain at your uni, and find out what you can expect when you attend a service at Hinde Street for the first time. Check it out here.
In addition to welcoming London’s students to join our church community, this Sunday’s Worship also involved reflecting on the many kinds of community we have already created at Hinde Street. As part of the service, we heard from Alan and Caroline from the Wednesday & Thursday Club, an outreach programme at Hinde Street that has a decades-long history of creating welcome for those experiencing homelessness.
If you missed this service and would like to hear more, you can catch our Deacon Ruth’s sermon as well as Alan and Caroline’s message on our podcast channel here.

We would like to thank Student Christian Movement for providing excellent resources for Christian students, some of which you’ll find in our welcome bags!
