Can we get married at Hinde Street?

General information about who can marry at Hinde Street is on the Methodist Church in Britain website. Whilst we usually marry people who live in the local area, or who attend Hinde Street regularly, it is entirely possible to marry when living elsewhere. Please contact us to discuss first, and then your local Register Office can advise you on the process and necessary documentation. Please note that Westminster has switched over to the Marriage Schedule System. You can read more about how this affects the paperwork process for your wedding on the Westminster Council website.

What about same-sex couples?

The 2021 Methodist Conference made provision for same-sex marriages to take place in Methodist churches. As an Inclusive Church, Hinde Street is delighted to be able to conduct same-sex marriages on its premises and has received the relevant permissions from the GRO. Our ministers are glad to have authorisation to perform all legal marriages.

We also welcome same-sex couples who have been married or civilly partnered and would like to receive a blessing. Do contact us and we can discuss it with you.

How do we book?

It is best to contact a minister of the church as soon as possible. Hinde Street is a busy church, so the earlier you contact us the more likely that the church will be available. If you would like to view the church before making a decision, a Sunday visit is usually best, as you are able to see both church and ministers in a more natural environment!

What about preparation?

The church believes it is important that all couples contemplating marriage or civil partnership take time to prepare thoroughly for the commitments they are going to make. We’d like to invite you to meet with the minister on two or three occasions to explore the meaning behind the things you will be saying and doing in public. An initial meeting of one hour is likely to be scheduled where the practical details are addressed. Additionally, a rehearsal will take place where the service details are worked through.  

Flowers

Flowers for Sunday services are arranged by a rota of volunteers. If you require special arrangements or colours you will probably wish to make your own provisions. The church does not have an appointed florist but details of those close to the church can be provided by the office. Access to the church during the week of the wedding should be negotiated with the office reception team.
