Welcome

We are Hinde Street Methodist Church

Whoever you are and wherever you’re from, you have a place with us.

1

We are part of the world-wide community of people who follow Jesus Christ. As Christians, we share the love, grace and compassion of God with those around us.

2

We are a diverse group of people gathered from all over London. We are a warm, caring and nurturing community; we rejoice in our different backgrounds and views, and welcome all. We are an inclusive church, and our theological approach is open and thoughtful.

3

We work out the meaning of our faith using the Bible, the traditions of the church, our experience, and our reason. The Holy Spirit helps us make sense of these things for today. We value questions, and we look beyond easy answers.

4

We are a centre of Methodist worship and spirituality. We are faithful to our tradition of preaching, music, song and liturgy, whilst staying open to God and working in partnership with other people of faith.

5

We care for those on the margins of society through prayer and action. We do this through the church’s voluntary activities, by supporting the professional social work of the West London Mission, and in our daily lives.

In all these things we fail as often as we succeed; but we continue to trust in God’s unconditional love, and in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

West London Mission

Hinde Street Methodist Church is part of the West London Mission Circuit. You can find out more about the circuit, its churches and services on our new website here.

Alan Brooks’ book tells episodes of tragic internal strife, of personal sacrifice and of the devastation of war. But he also recalls a high tradition of public worship and music maintained over two centuries, the excitement of building a new chapel, and the church’s constantly developing efforts to support its inner-city constituency.
