Racial Justice Sunday

Racial Justice Sunday was established by the Methodist Church in 1989 in connection to the murder of Stephen Lawrence. According to the Methodist Church, this Sunday is an opportunity for all Christians to join together in:

• Reflecting on the importance of racial justice
• Thanksgiving for human diversity
• Prayer for an end to misunderstanding, racism and injustice
• Action that truly makes a difference
• Fundraising for national and local racial justice initiatives

This year, we at Hinde Street will observe Racial Justice Sunday at our 11am service on February 16th, rather than the traditional second Sunday of the month. We are honoured to welcome Paul Boateng, who will preach a sermon entitled “The Challenge of the Beatitudes: Holding a Candle for Equity and Inclusion in a Polarized World.“

As Paul explains, “In the face of rising extremism, intolerance, and an often shallow political discourse, the Beatitudes offer us a way forward in addressing systemic inequality and injustice. Race, of course, is just one part of this broader struggle.“
