SUMMARY:Church Away Day
DESCRIPTION:We hope that you will be able to join us for a day out in Greenwich with Hinde Street friends. Below is an outline of the day and things that you may like to do in Greenwich. This is an update of the paper version that was made available in church on August 20th.Please let Margaret Rudland know if you are planning to come to Greenwich by emailing her directly. Please also let her know if you would like one of the 12 cream teas (see below) which will be offered on a first come first served basis or wish to join a group to visit some of the sights. \nPlease do not hesitate to get in touch for any further information.Hope to see you there!Margaret Rudland \nmfrudland@btinternet.com            \nTRANSPORT TO GREENWICH 1. By river boat: This is a spectacular journey from Westminster Pier to Greenwich. Several companies run boats but I suggest the Westminster to Greenwich Sightseeing Thames Cruise in London which costs £14.90 one way and £19.65 return trip. You can book now (the sooner the better) and pay later through viator.com We suggest the 10.30 am sailing from Westminster Pier and the journey takes 1 hour. Westminster Pier is on the same side of the river as Westminster Underground Station. From the station\, turn left\, cross the road and walk down the slope to the boat. I will be there to meet you.                   2. By Underground and DLR: This is possibly a quicker journey than the boat and certainly less expensive but not so interesting.  Please get off at Cutty Sark Station. \nRemember to bring a packed lunch! \nMEET FOR COFFEE ON ARRIVALA good place to meet for coffee/drinks is The Old Brewery which is a café at the east end of the Greenwich Tourist Information Centre. The café has a very pleasant outdoor seating area where we can gather at about 11.45am. The Information Centre is a large building\, with a cannon and a statue of Sir Walter Raleigh outside and is just inside Greenwich Park about 5 minutes’ walk east (parallel to the river) from Cutty Sark. Whilst there are lots of other places for coffee etc. it would be good to be together.CREAM TEA (Scones\, jam\, cream and tea)A cream tea is served in the Undercroft Café\, below the Painted Hall.  Go inside the entrance for the Painted Hall and the café is down a few steps to your left. I have booked and paid for 12 cream teas at 2.30 pm. These cream teas are ‘on me’ but if you wish to have   one ‘on me’\, please let me know in advance. I will be at the entrance to the café to meet you and please arrive by 2.25pm so that we can go in together to our reserved seating. Other refreshments are available in the café.WHAT TO SEE (but you will not have time to go to many/all of the below)The Painted Hall\, Wren building well worth a visit but the entrance fee is £15/ free for U16.Also the Chapel\, another Wren building nearby\, Free.National Maritime Museum\, Free. Extremely interesting.Royal Observatory.  Wren building but a climb up the hill!  Entrance fee £18/ £9 child.Cutty Sark. Lots of steps but of great interest. Entrance Fee £18/ £9 child.  NB Royal Observatory and Cutty Sark can be visited a on a combined ticket which is cheaper. \n
