Can we get married at Hinde Street?
General information about who can marry at Hinde Street is on the Methodist Church in Britain website. We are able to marry people who live in the local area, or who attend Hinde Street regularly. You will need the appropriate documents from your local register office.
What about same sex couples?
We welcome same sex couples who have been married or civilly partnered, and would like a service of thanksgiving or blessing at Hinde Street. As with weddings, you need to live in the local area, or attend Hinde Street regularly. We are currently not able to conduct same sex marriages or civil partnerships on Methodist Church premises.
How do we book?
It is best to contact a minister of the church as soon as possible. Hinde Street is a busy church, so the earlier you contact us the more likely that the church will be available. If you would like to view the church before making a decision, a Sunday visit is usually best, as you are able to see both church and ministers in a more natural environment!
What about preparation?
The church believes it is important that all couples contemplating marriage or civil partnership take time to prepare thoroughly for the commitments they are going to make. We'd like to invite you to meet with the minister on two or three occasions to explore the meaning behind the things you will be saying and doing in public. There is also likely to be an initial meeting where the practical details are addressed, and a rehearsal where the service details are worked through. These meetings are usually about an hour long.
Flowers
Flowers for Sunday services are arranged by a rota of volunteers. If you require special arrangements or colours you will probably wish to make your own provisions. The church does not have an appointed florist but details of those close to the church can be provided by the office. Access to the church in the week of the wedding should be negotiated with the Office reception team.
Orders of service
The minister will be pleased to offer you some advice on the order of service, but the church is unable to take responsibility for its production.
What will it cost?
Current charges are: £640 church including minister fees & rehearsal and if required includes additional chairs & PA system, £150 caretaker fee, and optional £150 organist fee (first refusal for an organist must be given to the Hinde Street Organist).
£50 extra charge for non-commercial recording of service; please note that if the service is to be videotaped or recorded professionally the permission of the organist and the minister must be obtained beforehand. Such recordings also increase the organist’s fee.
