The Kreuzkirche (Church of the Cross) is the main Methodist Church in Leipzig. This exchange visit is one of a series of visits between the two churches, initiated by our visit to Leipzig, led by Stuart Jordan in 1986 when Leipzig was still in the DDR and was therefore both innovative and pioneering. We went again in 1990 after the wall had come down in 1989. In 1991 we had the pleasure of entertaining a group from the Kreutzkirche. Since that time there have been a number of exchanges culminating in their visit to us in 2011 and our visit to them in 2013.

Those of us who went on this last exchange found it to be a really fascinating and rewarding experience. We stayed with members of the church, had meals with them, were able to discuss their past experiences of taking part in the peace marches, as well as being tourists in Leipzig. We had a guided walking tour of the city, a bus tour of the neighbourhood, went into the Nikolaikirche, (the centre for the Monday peaceful protests), enjoyed a Motet in the beautiful Thomaskirche and visited a number of Museums -including the Bach Museum. We were royally entertained in a party at the Church on the Saturday night and shared in Sunday worship.
This is a hard act to follow and we hope that our friends from Leipzig will enjoy their time with us as much as we did with them. We have tried to provide a flexible programme so that they will have organised activities and also free time to explore London.
They will arrive during Friday April 28th and, before they meet their hosts, will have the opportunity to Visit Sky Garden.
The following day, Saturday April 29th, a London tour has been organised by Cathy Slater after morning devotions at Hinde Street. Saturday afternoon will be flexible time -planned if they want it free if they don’t - with Evensong at St Paul’s at 5pm.
In the evening we have a party at Hinde Street with food, joint activities and entertainment by members of both churches.
On Sunday April 30th we will join in worship together at 11.0’clock followed by lunch. In the afternoon there is the possibility of exploring museums in South Kensington: V & A, Science Museum, Natural History or going behind the scenes at the Albert Hall.
On Monday May 1st, after short devotions at Hinde Street, our guests leave for the airport.
This is a brief overview of our present plans. We hope that all members of the congregation will feel able to take part in some or all of the activities, and welcome and enjoy making firm contacts with our guests from Leipzig
