KPH

The residents of Katherine Price Hughes House have all been convicted of criminal offences.

The majority have served long sentences in prison, and have been released to serve the rest of their sentence within the community. We also work with a minority of residents who have been sentenced to Community Rehabilitation Orders. The work carried out with residents at KPH enables them to gain insight into their offending behaviour, allowing them to change their lifestyles. KPH is one of 13 voluntary managed Approved Premises in the country. Another 90 Approved Premises are managed by probation trusts or boards.

Staff work with about 40 residents a year in the premises. A number of workers are fully trained psychotherapists, and all offer residents help with social and emotional development. Residents are encouraged to cultivate new attitudes to things like health, self care, and building relationships.

Many residents start off with very little insight into their offending behaviour. At KPH, they learn to look at their patterns of behaviour in a new way, and they appreciate the support they receive in making changes to their lifestyles. They are encouraged to develop tolerance and understanding among themselves and others, and expected to engage in useful and socially responsible activities.
Staff also offer residents practical care, such as help with housing applications, job seeking and training. The majority of residents move on from the hostel to stable housing.

The aim of all this is to reintegrate offenders with a high risk of harm safely back into the community, and give them the skills and motivation to develop law-abiding, constructive attitudes and lifestyles – which are sustainable in the long term. This increases safety in the wider community and minimises the risk to the individual of reoffending.

The hostel is staffed 24 hours a day, and each resident has one key worker who works with them across a wide range of issues.

The work of KPH is in line with The Home Office Rolls & Purpose of Approved Premises.
